Hello people 😀
How are you doing and how’s the job search? Hope it’s going well. As always, I’m here to help you, and will be tackling one of the most common interview questions ever – ‘Tell Me About Yourself’.
I’ve never attended an interview where ‘Tell me/us a bit about yourself’ wasn’t the first question I got asked, and trust me I’ve attended A LOT of interviews, lol. I worked with 8 different companies during my Uni days alone (you can read more about that over on the ‘About’ section of the website by the way). I’ve also moved on to work with many different organisations since graduation. And let me tell you, that seemingly harmless question ‘Tell Me About Yourself’ has been the FIRST thing I’ve heard at E.V.E.R.Y S.I.N.G.L.E I.N.T.E.R.V.I.E.W I’ve attended. Think about that for a minute – that means there’s pretty much no way on earth you can escape that question at a job interview.
I initially struggled every time I heard this question, but what I didn’t realise in my early days of trying to get into the job market was that recruiters are actually looking for specific information when they ask that question. Yeah, it’s an icebreaker, and an opportunity for them to get to know you a bit better BUT you need to realise that they don’t care about your cat, marital status, state of origin, how many children you have etc 🙄 😆 You want to know why? Because it’s not about you, it’s about them. Let me repeat that sentence – it’s not about you, it’s about them.
I mean the whole reason for the interview is the fact that the company needs someone to fill a position that will help them achieve their objectives on the long run. It’s all about THEIR bottom line. The moment I understood that very simple concept, my life literally changed because I knew it was a case of learning how to sell myself as the best candidate for the job at every opportunity I got.
Watch the short video below to find out how I do it, and learn a really simple formula to help you answer the question like a PRO every single time you hear it 😀
